FC3 INIT: Id "[1-6]x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes

I am trying to install FC3 on Connectix Virtual PC (before MS swallowed them
up), but keep getting the respawning message half way through the boot. I
can CTRL ALT + fkey to a tty without a respawn message, get the issue and am
able to enter the login but never get a chance to enter a password as it
respawns.

If I switch of the quiet option on the kernel can watch the initrd running
it's commands apparently OK but fails after init kicks to runlevel.

I can access everything without difficulty using the rescuecd even to
getting X to run.

I suspect that the file systems are still mounted read only preventing init
setting up its pipe and the mingetty's launching.

Is there any way I can follow the boot process in more detail or run each
stage by hand to track this down.

I have installed FC3 on a PC normally and have no problems, I installed FC1
and FC2 as a cross check FC1 ran OK, FC2 gave similar errors to FC3 but
prior to the respawn errors it appeared to show the rc script breaking.

Any ideas on how to follow this up?

Cheers,

John Whyte
