Well this is just a thought, but let's say you want to use LaTeX. Emacs
with AUC-TeX, RefTeX, preview-latex, etc., is easily the best LaTeX
editing environment there is, and Emacs also has a very easy to use
interface to version control systems. So you could track document
changes just by keeping the source document in CVS or SVN.
