Thank you all for the help.
I'll look into updating with yum instead of Up2date in future. For now am
speeding along at 114 kB/sec -- not blazing speed but far better than 2.

up2date can use yum as well as apt4rpm repos but its not a proper
frontend as such. fc4 will have pup. look into fedora-config list
archive for details
