[Synaptic]Problem with bug in repositry list

I experienced problems with synaptic : at one time I tried to edit 
the repositry list but I added something wrong in one of the entries ! ; now 
no way to open synaptic anymore at it says that the repositry list is 
corrupted (thogh synaptic saved it as such before !) ; I removed synaptic 
package reloaded it again : again no way as the same corrupted repositry list 
is used ! ; I wish I knew where this file is located to clean it up !
