Put the fonts in an appropriate directory, perhaps:

/usr/local/share/fonts

The edit your /etc/fonts/local.conf so that it looks something like
this:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
<!-- /etc/fonts/local.conf file for local customizations -->
<fontconfig>
        <dir>/usr/local/share/fonts</dir>
</fontconfig>

Voila!
