The default updatedb.conf on FC3 has PRUNEPATHS with "... /mnt/floppy", 
what suggests to include "/mnt/usb" to PRUNEPATHS.
Besides this, I have a FAT filesystem mounted automatically and I have 
used PRUNEPATHS with the mount point instead of the /dev/...
