Every Zip disk I've seen in the past (it's been some years now) used FAT
as the default filesystem, but you can reformat it with a different
filesystem if you like. In fact, if you never plan to use the disks in a
Windows machine, you can reformat them with ext2:

  mkfs.ext2 /dev/sda4
