I removed a line from fstab that fstab-sync had inserted for a USB disk 
drive and bounced the box. I was expecting kudzu to give me a parmanent 
line but no such luck. Now HAL won't attach the device either.

How do you tell HAL to not touch a particular device, and how do I get 
kudzu to do its normal detection thing at startup?
