Fedora-List & Greylisting

I notice the following in the logs (these are three separate mails):

        /var/log/maillog.1:Feb 22 21:56:29 smtp postfix/smtp[10311]:

        [66.187.233.32], delay=12, status=deferred (host mx3.redhat.com

        greylisted for 9 minutes and 32 seconds. (in reply to end of
        DATA command)
        
        greylisted for 9 minutes and 27 seconds. (in reply to end of
        DATA command))

While I understand the basics of greylisting, I cannot figure out how
the variable delay is being calculated. Doesn't 30 minutes (plus the
SMTP delay) seem like a VERY long greylist deferral?

On a related note, they seem to be fixing what weren't broke (unless
some of the other lists have more serious spam problems). The cost is in
spontaneity.
