Slamr and slmodemd

I did try the ALSA module but have come to the conclusion that it only work if 
snd_intel8x0m is loaded. I can load the snd module and build the alsa version 
of slmodemd, but it doesn't work, I think that its because my chipset is via 
not intel. 
Curious is there a snd_viam module or similar?
