[FC3] Where are default Sans and Sans Serif fonts defined?

Hi all;

I'm wondering where the default Sans and Sans Serif fonts are defined.
I'm pretty sure Fedora uses Luxi Sans and Luxi Sans Serif, and I'd
like to change those to the Vera Sans and Sans Serif system wide.

BTW, the reason for this is the strange display of the system fonts in
FC2 and FC3. FC1 didn't have the same problem, which seems to be a
spacing issue. For example, in a stock install of FC3, if one browses
to cnn.com, the main story body text appears to be double spaced. Same
thing with slashdot. Then, in OpenOffice.org, if I choose Options, the
window that comes up is huge because there is a lot of space around
the text. This is very apparent in KDE, where even the menus have a
lot more space between application names than in FC1.

As a test, I installed the MS web fonts, and that fixed the issues
with web browsing, but ruined OpenOffice.org, most apparently in Calc,
where the default cell size in a blank worksheet became smaller,
throwing off formatting in some templates I have.

So then I tried out the Vera fonts, which, although not as nice IMO as
the Luxi fonts, are consistent from GNOME to KDE, web browsing and
OpenOffice.org.

I've encountered this problem on fresh FC3 installs on an old laptop
and two different desktops. They each have a different video chipset
(I was thinking it might be that). Kind of surprised there wasn't more
traffic on the list about this, I sure hope I'm not the only one. I
checked bugzilla a couple of times, but wasn't able to find something
that was the same as what I'm seeing.
