mounting archos jukebox studio 10 in fedora core 3

I believe that the file system for the jukebox is
fat16.  I added a line to my fstab:
/dev/sdc1  /mnt/archos  fat  users,owner,rw,umask=000
0 0
(note: I also tried vfat, but I think that is for
fat32).

When I try to mount this I get a message, "mount: fs
type fat not supported by kernel".

Help appreciated.
