Fedora Core 3 Sound Problems....?

I had the same issue and it turned out I had not connected the cable 
from my cdrw/dvd drive to the mobo. Then I had to make sure the 
haedphone out wasnt muted in alsamixer or kmix or whatever.  There may 
be other, better ways...
