What is causing my hard-drive to spin up?

You mentioned that you're using "the hdparm command" to keep the disk 
spun down. Are you using "hdparm -y" or "hdparm -Y". I ask because I'm 
having a problem with "hdparm -Y", it puts my disk to sleep but I can't 
get it to recover when I try to mount it.
