Object files (as opposed to DSOs and executables) are *never* guaranteed 
to be usable on newer systems.  Likewise you'll have problems with 
incorrectly built DSOs.  Either one case might be the test case.  Just 
rebuild the thing from the sources.  If you don't have them, let this 
serve yo as a warning of the evils of proprietary software.
