I have successfully downloaded a DVD iso with Firefox before.  As you
said, the file size starts going down after 2 GB, but it still
downloaded the file correctly.  The only thing that is "reversing" is
the indicator.  The download should continue as normal.
As suggested by other posts, there are better alternatives.  I used
bittorrent to download my FC3 isos.
