Loging into Squirrelmail

That is a very very bad idea.

Yes, because root is not allowed to login. This is for security reasons.

Forward root's mail to a mortal user account by using an alias in
/etc/aliases (commented alias exits already). Use then the "newaliases"
command to make the change active.
