FC3 Still Hates Me: No Sound

Have not been following this thread so if this has been tried already

A while back I had a motherboard that did not appear to have sound
working.  Modules seemed to load just fine but I could not get any sound
out of it.  This particular mother board had an interesting sound
setup.  Apparently in certain modes the speaker had to be plugged into
the microphone input.  Under linux this apparently was the mode it
defaulted to.  After I connected the speakers to the correct connector
sound worked just fine.

Was not obvious that the speakers had to be connected to what appeared
to be an input.
