Good point.
I should log the MAC address so I have
it if I need it.

Well perhaps it is. see below...

It might be fun to ask the ISP if they would help installing such a
device.  When you get a serious dumb answer like "unsupported" or
"unnecessary" send a 'letter of record' to the ISPs legal department.
Thank them for the support and information and that you trust from 
their lack of support and or advice that this is unnecessary and
that you are happy to let them assume partial liability for personal
loss, identity theft, pain, suffering, inconvience and financial
loss via the internet should their advice be in error.

OK I am just kidding about the letter but any engineer has heard the
marketing guys blather about lack of demand, lack of market, lack of
value...   Ask the question, click feedback on the help screens, 
give those marketing folks something to measure.

If you ever need to break an agreement with an ISP the lack of support
for a 'common consumer firewall/ security' product could/ should be
sufficent cause.  ;-)
