Enigma: yum check-update doesn\'t show all rpms in a repository

When I point my browser to     
   http://limestone.uoregon.edu/ftp/fedora/updates/3/i386/

I see 
   alsa-lib-1.0.6-7.FC3.i386.rpm   19-Jan-2005 09:25  302K  

is available. But, in when the only repo I specify for yum is 
   http://limestone.uoregon.edu/ftp/fedora/updates/3/$ARCH/

yum's check-update response indicates no alsa rpms are available.  My references point to the SAME repository, true?  How can the results differ for the same repository - depending on whether my Firefox is looking or yum is looking?
