In my experience? Not really an issue, as long as you don't have
'gadget' hardware- things like Televisions connected by USB, firewire
printers, that kinda thing. If you can get your network card connected
to the router/firewall/cable modem (or whatever you have) you can be
almost guaranteed a functioning Linux box in an hour or so, on the net.
Notice the AOL/ICQ/email ID in this message- I'm about to head to
work, but at 6AM central time I'll be here and can help you get started.

Not at all; this is a big step for you- it was, for me.
PS: Don't forget to get your IP address, gateway, netmask, dns and
all that stuff before you shoot it in the head.
