Earthlink not helping.

Sounds like possibly name resolution (DNS) isn't working. You've got
a dyanmic IP, I assume, which would be assigned automatically whenever
you connect. At the same time earthlink should also be giving your
system the address of a nameserver to use. It sounds like perhaps
they aren't, or perhaps it's incorrect or the server it refers to
isn't working.

I'm not at a fedora box right now, but the one I"m using (Taolinux),
in the config screen where you tell it to automatically obtain IP 
address, also has a checkbox you must check if you want it to 
automtically obtain the DNS server address. You may wish to look
thru your PPP connection's configurations to make sure all these
things are enabled.
