Problem adding TTF fonts -

Can anyone explain "skipping," if and how I can control it?

This computer seems to be working all right but I have a new 
installation that
seems to be "skipping" all the .ttf fonts added to .fonts?  Once again 
I've botched
something but can't see what I've done wrong?
