There is nothing wrong with using Sun's Java software on Linux.  You
can go with either the JPackage route or use Sun's product(s).

After you have extracted and installed the rpm put the symbolic link
to libjavaplugin_oji.so in  the /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins directory.
Placing it there will cover both the Firefox and Mozilla browsers and
does not require upkeep whenever your browser is upgraded.
