It won't work in KDE - they use different configs and Firefox is a Gnome app.
In my
~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mailto/%gconf.xml
I have:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<gconf>
<entry name="enabled" mtime="1109327532" type="bool" value="true">
</entry>
<entry name="command" mtime="1109327532" type="string">
<stringvalue>term -e mutt %s</stringvalue>
</entry>
</gconf>
Run the command:
gconf-editor
from a shell prompt. It pops up a GUI. FOllow the desktop/gnome/url-handlers
route and set the one for mailto.
