You might look into Cacti: http://www.cacti.net
It is easily installed; RPMs are supplied and the prerequisites are in
extras.

For doing the monitoring, you will either need a managed switch that
lets you query the port statistics via SNMP, or you will need to set
up an SNMP daemon on each host.

What you can't do using this method is separate the traffic that goes
out over the Internet from traffic between your hosts.
