(OT) Thunderbird Mail Filters

I added mail filters, finding it necessary after subscribing
to this list. Never needed them before :-)

Anyway, I find that I must *manually* run the filters on my
Inbox. They don't automatically run when I pull mail. They
work great, but they just don't run.

How may I get the mail filters to run automatically when mail
is pulled?
