What do "service network status" and "chkconfig --list network" report?
It sounds like you are not even starting the networks as a whole.

Also note that "/etc/sysconfig/network" should say something like:

NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=spoo.spoo.spoo
--->8===

(Of course, the spoo should be replaced with something more intelligent.)
