Aha, for once I am useful in this group:
Post installation, the following is from a response posted to a previous query
from me in the RH9 days....
The responder was one josh:
edit /etc/sysconfig/network:
-(finn at suburbia)-(pts/2)-(09:09PM 07/25)-(err:0)-
-(~) % cat /etc/sysconfig/network
NETWORKING=yes
HOSTNAME=suburbia

So, bottomline is you can change the HOSTNAME to whatever you want. If you
would like suburbia.stat.washington.edu and want to ssh into machines called
exurbia.stat.washington.edu by just typing ssh exurbia, you should put the
complete name as HOSTNAME=suburbia.stat.washington.edu
HTH and best wishes!
