No, he's just right, period. What you say is true for "compiling the
catalog". But one may compile *any* collection in English. "Compiling
a CD" is perfectly correct. "Compiling the CD catalog" is also
perfectly correct, but refers to a different activity.

Although my first language is Spanish, I began speaking English at the
age of 3, and consider it to be my native language, since I now speak
it better than I do Spanish.

I suggest that, when there is a question of what is meant by a particular
turn of phrase, unless there is a real question of meaning or intent, it
simply be allowed to pass. Especially since we have many people here
who do not speak English as a first tongue. In other words, if no real
change to the meaning of the question arises, it simply be allowed
to pass without comment.

If a question of meaning really arises, then a question is probably more
appropriate than a "correction", especially if the one offering the
correction does not speak English as his primary language.
