Restarting gpm

Hi all, I sometimes lose the mouse after I switch my KVM. I was
informed that I can restart the mouse by restarting gpm. So in 'man
gpm' I saw that I can stop gpm with the -k flag. But how to restart
it? When I enter $gpm I am informed: "No device specified for mouse
#1".
