This is a good time to point out the RHN-applet != Up2date.  The Up2date
code has basically nothing to do with the "flashing red exclamation
point".  The FC4 Up2date has no problem with the new repomd metadata or
the old "headers" repodata.  The RHN-applet, on the other hand, doesn't
understand repomd (yet).
