system-config-printer not writing configuration ?

Yes, now that you mentioned it, I can't remember if I did that or not, maybe 
not.

I found another FC 3 machine, set up the printers from there (also to test to 
make sure my print server on Redhat machine works fine). Then I exported the 
setting:
/usr/sbin/system-config-printer-tui --Xexport > settings.xml
and import the conf. in the FC 4 box:
/usr/sbin/system-config-printer-tui --Ximport < settings.xml

After restarted cups, the printers works fine, and apps can see the printers. 

So that solves the problem for me. But it still doesn't explain why 
system-config-printer fails in the first place.
