Hm, I tried smooshing my hand on the keyboard, and then booting
one of the options, but that has the same effect -- panic.
What DOES help, as someone mentioned earlier, is acpi=noirq ro
acpi=off. I haven't tried combinations yet (to see which really solves the
problem), but I have moved on to the next things.
