atrpms, gcc, libtool and what did i do wrong?

"updates" is updates-released. I removed the second instance, but I
don't think this will make a difference. Your smart query output
showed that smart was already seeing all gccs.

Just to continue shooting in the dark, and since yum also does halt
on updating perhpas your rpm database is out of order? Try

rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__*
rpm --rebuilddb

after making sure no smart/yum/apt/rpm/synaptic is running in another
terminal.
