No rpm, no sound, no zip, and no kdm image.

I installed FC4 a couple of days ago and I encountered a whole set of
fundamental problems with it.
Wren I log-in in run-lever 3 to install NVidia drivers I lost rpm as a
root.
When I run, for example, rpm -qa as a root or try to is install real
player I get
[root at zoran download]# rpm -ivh RealPlayer10GOLD.rpm
rpmdb: unable to initialize mutex: Function not implemented
rpmdb: /var/lib/rpm/__db.001: unable to initialize environment lock:
Function not implemented
error: db4 error(38) from dbenv->open: Function not implemented
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - Function not implemented (38)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm
Any ideas what is wrong?
Zip does not work. When I try to mount it the following happens:
Could not mount device.
The reported error was:
mount: special device /dev/hdd4 does not exist
Actually /dev/hdd4 does exist but does not seem to be the right device.
Any ideas about this one?
Then when it comes to sound, I think alsa-kernel does not work well.
For snd-cs46xx, I get the following message when I try to play a wave file:
[15:27:58] alsa_dump_configuration: status of hw:0,0

Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Then the image for kdm that I choose does not show. The usual Bluecurve
login display shows.
There were a few comments earlier in this list but none of the
suggestions work.
The first 3 issues are quite fundamental that makes me think that RC1 is
better suited for this release.
It has more problems than even FC1 when it came out.
I would be grateful to anyone that has suggestions about the list of
problems above.
Thanks,
Zoran
