hdx=ide-scsi still a valid option?

Since several releases we have a situation, that k3b fails trying to
verify a CD/DVD it has written. Also mediacheck fails using the standard
procedure.

Whereas for mediacheck there is a workaround available, is there also a
workaround for CDs/DVDs written by K3B? I remember a hint from Alan Cox
to use ide-scsi, but my system freezes badly when I try this method.
