Yes!! I agree -- I cannot imagine trying to switch our teachers or
students here at the school over to linux, even if all the needed apps
did run (like our gradebook and school management software) Linux is a
great operating system for tech types and servers, but it is not ready
yet (notice I said YET) for general user / home user desktops.  Yes,
there are some cases where limited use can work (email / websurfing
etc).  I am going to begin the process this year of SLOWLY introducing
our students to it -- I am planning to set up a linux box (probably
ubuntu) with Open office etc on it and they will have to do at least one
project/ paper etc on it as part of their grade.
