/ partition full root user also not able to write anything to disk

Why are you sure the partition is not full?  Have you checked for huge
log or tmp files?  Done "yum clean all" or otherwise cleaned out cached
updates?

Hate to ask - sounds so Windoze-like, but have you rebooted?
