I cannot get back to KDE

Um, maybe a typo, but 6.3 *MB* is not nearly enough disk space to do
much useful stuff.  Perhaps the output of the command "df -h" would be
enlightening.  Also, as root try:
cd /
du -hs *
to see how much space your directories are taking up.  If you can
login as root and not a normal user (including a fresh one) that
certainly sounds like a disk space problem.
