newbie upgrade question? Fedora 2 to Fedora 3 or 4

I am running 2.6.10-1.771_FC2 #1 Mon Mar 28 00:50:14 EST 2005 i686 i686
i386 GNU/Linux on a PC class 64 bit machine, however, I am running 32
bit software.  

I would like to upgrade the core without losing my misc programs and
data stored on the system.  I non-destructive upgrade...

What is the easiest way for a newbie.
