Yes, that is the way most lists other than the very basic work.  This helps 
prevent spam on the list.

To get a "bottom-up" sort, just click on the label ("date" in this case) again 
and the sort order will be reversed.

Welcome to the list.  Ask all the questions you want, but be warned, if you 
don't check the archives or try to google for an answer, some responders get 
a bit irate.  Also, when asking a question, please provide as much 
information as neccessary such as cpu type, kernel/program versions, package 
names, etc.
