yum times out frequently - socket timeout value too low?

Yeah, this is a known yum "feature". (Not quite a bug, because some people
like it.) But as I understand it, it's hard behavior to change because of
the intricacies of what python library is doing what at that exact second.
Me, I just have a short list of local servers.
