For a version of linux which boots quite quickly, you could try Beatrix
(http://www.watsky.net).  There are some limitations in this distro, as
it's designed with quite a strict purpose (to be easy to use for non-
techies and good for low-powered hardware especially VIA's mini-itx
motherboards), but it does boot one heck of a lot faster than FC3 (on my
PC it does anyway).
