Anecdote:
Back in the mid 70's I was on the staff at Seattle Univ. where we had an old Honeybucket 201 system & one day there was a fire in the printer. Seems the printer designers figured static would be a problem, so they installed a frilly foil "chain" across the top of the paper path. Looked like a Christmas tree decorative strand. After a period of some quite dry days, static did indeed build up & the frilly foil thing caught an arc of static which ignited the paper! Fortunately another staff member was in the computer rorm & saw the thin wisp of smoke. Kocked the printer offline & 3 quick form feeds got the paper out where it could be ripped off. We then ripped out the frilly foil thing to solve the arcing problem.
Walt Smith, a really old geezer & lurker on the list.
