httpd serving wrong DocumentRoot [solved]

OK, everything works fine now - so I can get to work on the website...

For those looking for the solution:

1. I reinstalled httpd & php
2. I didn't edit /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
3. I moved all the files I wanted to serve to httpd's default
DocumentRoot
4. I changed the permissions on that directory so I could also work on
it

and voilá it works.
