Yes, exactly -- if there's stuff in the directory that doesn't belong to the
firefox RPM, it just leaves it there, as that's basically the safest thing
to do.

Are you sure? I don't see anything in the package scripts to do that. Maybe
there's a trigger in the Java plugin RPM?
