Wireless card active, no connection to Internet

After much grief with ndiswrapper and with my own inability to follow
directions about how to enter a WEP key properly, I finally have my wireless
card up and running. wlan0 activates just fine, and when I try to view my
wireless connection in kwifimanager, I see that my local SSID is seen and
that there's a strong signal.
However, it simply won't connect. I've tried everything I can think of,
including disabling WEP, and nothing seems to get this card talking to the
Internet. I can't even ping my default gateway, 192.168.1.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
