It will if you have the HTML editing filter installed ... I don't
believe it's installed by default, but it's on the disk.

We still are using Office 97 at work and have not found any reason to
upgrade except for two things:
1. It's unsupported by Microsoft ... don't really bother us.
2. New hires are used to using Office XP and usually miss some feature
and gripe about it ... not worth the upgrade cost for 1000+ desktops.

I'm hoping the company is cheap enough to hold out till OOo 2.x is out
and we can compare Office 200x against that.
