new memory not recognized

Hi;

I have a sony laptop running FC3. It came with 512Meg of memory. I added 
an additional 512Meg but the system doesn't seem to recognize the 
additional memory.

If I go to the Info Center and choose memory I see:
Total Physical Memory:     527,675,392bytes = 503.23Meg

Do I need to do something to get the system to recognize the new memory?
